24 Hours at Corona Lake

Well, it was actually 23 hours...LOL. We went to Corona Lake the weekend before last with Team 57 from FNN. Unfortuanately, it was the weekend when we had the heat wave....our car showed 111, at one point!

Boiling Hot
The cool thing about Corona Lake is you can drive right up to the lake, so no carrying your gear for 10 minutes.

Here are some of the other FNN-ers on the shore:

The Lake is usually open in two Sessions. One from 6AM-4PM and the other from 5PM-11PM. Because FNN planned the private event, with our wristbands we could stay from 5PM Saturday-4PM Sunday.

We didn't have much fishing action the first day...well, actually the ENTIRE time. We were fishing for catfish and the water was still just a little too cold for them to be real active. The trout bite was pretty good, but they weren't going for our garlic shrimp bait....

That night we had Brats & Potatoes, one of our favorite camp dinners! Mmmm... Here's our camp kitchen....

Late that night, we decided to move over the other side of the lake to see how things were going over there. Slept in the back of the Explorer and got up before sunrise to hoping to catch the morning bite.

While we were waiting, I cooked up some Ham & Egg McMuffins.....

And we waited....

...and waited.... Waiting

Then FINALLY, as we were getting ready to pack-up around 1, I got a bite!

...I ran down to my pole, set the hook, and starting reeling. Just then, the fish took off....I mean was taking line faster than I've ever seen! Brian was looking around for a nearby boat, figuring I have gotten caught in a motor....lol.

It pulled line for a good minute! Then the fish turned around and started swimming towards shore. I reeled in, keeping the line taunt....Brian got the net ready, but no show from my mystery fish....it stayed too deep to see. Then, ZZZZZZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG! The fish took off again! It was pulling line just as hard as the first time for 45 seconds! Then, SNAP! Line busted! It was definitely big whatever it was. What a rush!

Every fishermen (or fisherwomen..lol) has their story about "The one that got away.." That is definitely mine.

Well, after all of that, we changed our minds about leaving....and about an hour later I caught this little guy...

Little "NoBell" here didn't even ring the bell on my pole, hence the name....lol

We stayed until 4pm, but didn't have anymore luck. We still had fun camping and hanging out with all of our Team 57 friends...but with the heat, and only 3 hours of sleep we were tired!
